Well, this is too personal for us to answer.. but we have a strong opinion on this.

For photography, you won't notice a difference. You'll be looking at each other in the photos as you repeat what the minister says, or you'll be looking at each other as you say your own vows. No difference.

For your wedding video, the difference is massive. We can actually use your vows for the more cinematic editing, and besides that, looking at each other and saying something from the heart looks a million times better than having a 3-second silence each time you need to repeat what the minister tells you to say. I'd say 30 or 40% of couples stumble while repeating because it's not something you wrote, and almost always the minister has an accent and you might get lost in the middle of a sentence.

So.. should you write your own vows? It's really up to you, but we think everybody will appreciate that you do. Your ceremony will feel more intimate, your video will look better, your memories will be stronger and most important of all, you'll be telling each other why you're saying I DO.
