Yes, definitely. We have plenty of experience posing people that are not models.
That being said, we really enjoy capturing real expressions and emotions in our weddings, and for this, we try -as much as we can- to have couples to naturally interact with each other. This usually works, but for some couples is a little bit harder than for others. If that's your case, we'll tell you where to stand and how, what to do with your hands, your faces and everything.. but this will all be overridden if you act naturally with your spouse and we can capture that.
There are a few general things that we try to explain our couples that work for every single person:
- Talk to each other. Act naturally. Smile often.
- Get closer. Sometimes, couples stand a few inches away from each other, even when kissing. This might be natural for you, but it doesn't look good in camera. Shorten the distance with each other as much as possible. As a general rule, touching your hips is the best way to solve this.
- Avoid puckering your lips unless you are kissing. We have many couples that stand an inch away from each other faces and they tend to pucker up, which looks really unnatural and silly because that's what gets frozen in time. What to do instead? Smile/Relax your mouth/Breath normally/Talk to each other.
- Don't look for approval. If you are interacting with each other, try to focus on each other and not on us while we're capturing that. If you have a videographer, this is especially important as we cannot use any of the scenes when you look at the photographer every time after you kiss.
- Have a playful attitude, say silly things, make each other laugh.
And most important of all, enjoy each other!
